NYOP education were appointed by Aberdeen City Council as preferred bidder for the £120 million Aberdeen 3RS PPP (Private Public Partnership), comprising of 9 new build primary and secondary schools, one school refurbishment and one sports centre refurbishment.

Due to commence on site late 2007, the multi central design and construction team brings Scandinavian and British quality together to provide schools of the future achieving ‘Excellent’ BREEAM ratings on all new builds.

The two secondary schools are being constructed using a prefabricated structure designed by Bur Happold and built by the Danish Contractor PIHL and Sons Ltd to be constructed of a prefabricated Glulam timber frame and shall be constructed by Scottish builders Stewart Milne Construction.

The schools are designed utilising natural ventilation principles via a combination of manual opening windows and automatic roof lights.

Heating is provided by an under floor heating system fed from a gas fired central boiler plant with local individual room control provided.

Domestic hot water is generated by indirect hot water calorifiers with the incoming mains cold water pre-heated via solar hot water collector panels located at roof level.  Rainwater recycling systems are provided to collect and utilise rainwater for WC flushing to minimise water consumption.

Electrical services include LV distribution, small power, Cat 6, IT data installation, high efficiency internal and external installation, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security and access control.

Central building Management Systems are provided for automatic control and monitoring of all the building services installations.
